As the game begins, we meet Zagreus at the start of his first attempt to leave hell. In Hades, you play as a young Zagreus, son of Hades and prince of the underworld, who has lived his whole life in the underworld and he’s grown quite tired of living under the thumb of his father.

With the threat of the COVID-19 Delta variant looming on the horizon, our saviors have once again offered us an opportunity to break out of the Underworld, but this time, we’ll get to do it on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. As the year went on and boredom slowly began to turn into madness, Supergiant Games descended from high like the angel that it is and gifted us with Hades for the Nintendo Switch and PC. For the video game industry, things ground to a halt and we saw many delays. which was actually short lived. It wasn’t too long ago that COVID-19 forced us all into our homes, making 2020 one of the worst years of our everyday lives. and over again until the sweet sweet victory.

Either way it didn't stop me from sitting back, turning the volume up on some killer techno beats and pushing through over and over and over. Also the random generated rooms after 100 playthroughs started to feel a lot less random, I was able to tell what the room would look like the moment I entered it, I'm not sure if this was part of the design or if it was just hard to make every room feel different as the rooms were all quite small. There weren't that many new additions of enemies to the levels but it was something that I noticed and thought was a little unique. It also would occasionally switch out the sub-bosses, and the first boss had 4 different versions I came across. As it took over 100 tries to finally beat the game for the first time, the designers actually started introducing different enemies into the levels the more I played it. The level design also did something unique that I hadn't ever seen in other games like this. I died well over 100 times and the story was still going, questions I had were still unanswered which I really wanted to see how long the story was but again, it wasn't that interesting. I will give the creators very good props though. Halfway through the game I had given up on paying attention to what was going on and just started quickly scanning the text for keywords. I could tell that a lot of time went into creating this meticulous story involving lots of characters and individuals, however, that did not make it any more interesting. This story that was going on down here, it gave a great history of the characters and gave me Zagreus meaning for wanting to escape the underworld. Everyone in this area had something to say to me, but the creators of the game ensured that I was not able to just run through the story all in one setting as each person would only give me a short dialogue session each time I entered the area from dying. In this HUB area I was able to meet many people, from my Dad Hades and our dog Cerberus to the decorator and cook.
